Rationale:


Effective forensics analysis of computer and digital computer systems requires significant technical skills in multiple areas, to include computer hardware, operating systems, applications, image acquisition, analysis, handling and reporting. Proper identification, acquisition, analysis and reporting of digital evidence is critical in the areas of law enforcement and the corporate environment.

IIAS 4001

Indicates that an undergraduate computer security program that leads to an academic certificate or degree is recognized by industry much more effective when the foundations of the program are based upon solid technical skills. Effective programs include the minimum demonstrated skills equivalent to a minimum level of identifiable skills as demonstrated by the academic maturity of the students is vital to the success of their chosen field. Demonstrated skills via either course work or proven industry experience, equal to the CompTIA A+ certification is a minimum recommended standard for entry into a degree or certification program in the field of digital or computer forensics.

IIAS 4002

Effective academic programs in the field of digital and computer forensics involves a minimum of 40% of the course with hands-on skills training in the identification, acquisition, analysis and reporting of forensic image files.

IIAS 4003

Topics in local, state and federal laws pertaining to civil, regulatory and criminal law as it pertains to Digital and computer forensics cases will be presented and enforced throughout the curriculum.

IIAS 4004

Ethical issues relating to the privacy and dissemination of discovered information from any digital and computer forensic analysis will be included in any certificate or degree program.

Coursework and hands-on training in the following operating systems structures is a minimum recognized level of skills for a degree, certificate or certification in;

IIAS 4005

Reporting is a vital aspect of the computer forensics field. Students will demonstrate relevant and industry representative forensic reporting skills for any certification or degree program. This includes but is not limited to;

Case Reporting
Chain-of-Custody
Evidence Handling
Sanitization policy

IIAS 4050

IIAS 4000 series - International Industry and Academic Standards, may be reviewed and revised as determined by the IIAS review board.
